The security of credit card data: The PCI-DSS standard :

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is an international standard safety of sensitive data. It was defined by the PCI-SSC (Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council), an organization founded in 2005 by the major card payment systems: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover Financial Services and JCB.

The standard defines the protection of privacy and data integrity. It can be used and stored as part of card payments, including on the Internet (eg obligation to encrypt stored data, prohibition of storing the security code ...).

Additional security for online payments: 3D-Secure :

3D-Secure is a program created by international issuers Visa (Verified By Visa) and MasterCard (MasterCard Secure Code) to strengthen online payment security.

It is based on the establishment of an additional check when paying online: in addition to the bank details, the buyer is prompted to authenticate by entering personal data enabling the bank to identify and confirm.

This device is accompanied by regulatory changes called "transfer of responsibility".

Its principle is to bear the risk of arrears issued for contestation of the holder at the bank of the latter and not to the merchant's bank, if the holder has validated its payment by entering his personal data, his bank has validated this authentication and that the merchant has complied with the security measures mentioned in the terms of its merchant payment agreement (VADS).
